Firebase: (VR) gaming & code education

17th August 2016, 17:00-19:30, Q42, Amsterdam

Abstract

Firebase: (VR) gaming & code education Programming is fun, it's like a magic wand that gives you the ability to create your wildest dreams. During this event we will have Matt Feigal (Google), Jimmy Aupperlee (Q42) & Lukas van Driel (partner @Q42) on:

  • Basics of gaming in Firebase
  • VR Game Session Virtual Reality is coming! And though it has been since the sixties, as of late it has taken a turn for the better. It hasn’t quite reached the majority of the market, but an interesting time is approaching. One of the reasons for the product not reaching the big crowd is the isolation and the loss of interaction with people around the player. And that's where Firebase comes in. Jimmy Aupperlee and his team designed a humantetris game, styled like a gameshow, where other players decide the shape of the cutout in the wall the VR player needs to jump through. The walls are inserted into Firebase and picked out by the player when needed. Is Firebase going to be the way to get VR into every home? Come and help us brainstorm!
  • CT3000: Teaching Kids Coding Session Teaching kids how to code from a very young age is important, but challenging too. How do you teach them something useful without loosing their interest? Lukas van Driel and his team came up with the idea of making the individual codes interact with the digital whiteboards almost every classroom has nowadays. They designed CT3000, a programming tool for kids. Not a visual tool like Scratch, but a real online textbased IDE with syntax highlighting, preview functionality and multiplayer functions using a lightweight Firebase connection.
